KPIs are commonly used by an organization to evaluate its success or the success of a particular activity in which it is engaged. These same strategies are used when evaluating application performance. Often new products have struggle in determining which indicators are most important. Furthermore the indicators that may be important upon launch may not be the same key indicator that might be beneficial later into the applications life. Splice Media often suggests with each and every project that a comprehensive plan be considered before a line of code is even written. It’s in these research phases that we often like to think globally about the longer life of the product. We encourage our team and our client’s teams to work together to really dig deep into what the product they are making does. Who does it serve? . What is the deployment strategy be it web, mobile platforms, social, media outlets, etc. Ask a lot of questions and from the answers start to outline goals. You see if a products goals are not outlined well it’s often hard to examine the success or failure of a product. Without defined goals and industry specific expectations you often end up with unrealistic goals. For example an automotive applications that might serve the purpose of finding a close by service technician for your car might do well. But what is well? An often looked at indicator is stickiness. One would think that applications used for regular everyday action such as a dining delivery applications may seem more “sticky” per year than an auto repair app. Simply because you should not need to repair and automobile each day, but one does need to eat each day. So although the dining applications seems much more “sticky”, this does not mean the automobile applications is not also “sticky” and doing well for it’s own industry and or purpose.
